The selection of games on the market is almost endless. While Dungeons and Dragons is a go to for many, chances are, if you don’t want to play the classical fantasy heroes, there’s a system out there better suited to you.

From gritty realism to high fantasy, to horror and sci-fi, the options are many. But it can be hard knowing what to look for.

Here, I’ll introduce a few of my own favourite systems. But if you don’t find something that appeals to you, don’t be afraid to explore. Your local game store likely stocks several other systems.
